Overview

The AI Generator writes the SEO metadata of a post in one click from the editor. By default it runs through the Prime SEO AI service with GPT-4o mini, and 500 generations a month are part of the Pro license, so there is nothing to set up. Sites that want no limit or a different model add their own OpenAI key instead.

Unlike other SEO plugins that only generate basic titles, Prime SEO PRO generates 7 fields at once: SEO Title, Meta Description, OG Title, OG Description, Twitter Title, Twitter Description, and Focus Keywords.

What Gets Generated

A single click generates all of the following fields, optimized for their respective platforms:

How to Use

Open any post or page Navigate to the WordPress editor for the post or page you want to optimize.
Scroll to the Prime SEO metabox The metabox appears below the editor with SEO, Social, and Advanced tabs.
Click "Generate with AI" Look for the gradient button with a sparkle icon at the top of the metabox.
Wait 2–3 seconds The AI analyzes your content and generates optimized metadata for all fields.
Review the generated fields All tabs (SEO and Social) are populated automatically. Check the Google Preview to see how it looks.
Edit and save Adjust any field manually if needed, then save or update the post.
Tip
The AI analyzes your post's actual content, so write your content first, then generate the SEO metadata.

Included generations and your own key

Prime SEO → AI Settings has two options. Included with Pro is selected as soon as the license is active: the plugin sends the request to the Prime SEO AI service, the service calls OpenAI with its own key and returns the text. The license covers 500 generations a calendar month; the counter and the reset date sit on the same page, and the 14-day trial gets the same pool.

One generation is one click on Generate All (six fields and the keywords), one post in the Bulk Generator, or one AI Content Score analysis. When the 500 are used up, the buttons say so with the reset date, and a switch to your own key keeps you going the same day.

My own OpenAI key has no monthly limit and lets you pick GPT-4o instead of GPT-4o mini. You pay OpenAI directly; with GPT-4o mini a generation costs a fraction of a cent, so a hundred posts come to a few cents. The steps:

Create the key Sign in at platform.openai.com, open API keys and click Create new secret key. The key is shown once, so copy it right away.
Add a small balance Under Billing add a card and a prepaid balance. $5 covers thousands of generations.
Paste it in the plugin In Prime SEO → AI Settings choose My own OpenAI key, paste the key, click Test API Key, then Save Settings.
What leaves your site
With the included option the service receives the post title, excerpt and content (up to 500 words), the focus keyword, and the install id and license key needed to check the license. It keeps per-license counters and a log line per request (status, token counts, duration), not the texts and not the site address. With your own key the request goes straight to OpenAI and the key stays in your WordPress database. Details: privacy policy.

How It Works

The AI Generator follows a streamlined process to produce high-quality SEO metadata:

Content extraction Extracts your post content, title, and any existing metadata from the editor.
Structured prompt Sends the prompt with your content and the length rules to the Prime SEO AI service, or straight to OpenAI when your own key is selected.
AI generation The model returns the metadata within the character limits of each platform.
Field population All 7 fields in the metabox are populated automatically across all tabs.

The prompt is designed to create SEO-optimized content that:

  • Uses power words and emotional triggers to boost click-through rates
  • Respects character limits for each platform (Google, Facebook, Twitter/X)
  • Maintains your content's key message and intent
  • Includes relevant keywords naturally without stuffing

Tips for Best Results

  • Write content first — the AI needs your actual content to generate relevant metadata
  • Set a focus keyword — if you enter a focus keyword before generating, the AI will incorporate it into all fields
  • Review and adjust tone — AI output is a strong starting point, but you may want to match your brand voice
  • Include product details — for product pages, make sure key features and benefits are in the content
  • Aim for 200+ words — the AI works best with content of at least 200 words, giving it enough context to generate accurate metadata
Important
AI-generated metadata is a starting point. Always review and adjust for accuracy, especially for sensitive topics, legal content, or brand-specific messaging.
