Getting Started
Install Prime SEO and optimize your WordPress site for both traditional and AI search engines in under 5 minutes.
Installation
Prime SEO installs just like any other WordPress plugin. There are two ways to install it:
From WordPress.org (recommended)
Manual upload
Download the ZIP file from WordPress.org, then go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and upload the ZIP file.
Setup Wizard
After activation, Prime SEO launches a 4-step setup wizard that helps you configure the essential settings.
Step 1: Homepage SEO
Set your homepage title and meta description. Prime SEO will use these for your front page's SEO meta tags. If you leave them empty, WordPress defaults will be used.
Step 2: Features
Choose which modules to enable. All modules are enabled by default, but you can disable any you don't need:
- XML Sitemaps — auto-generated sitemaps for search engines
- Schema Markup — structured data (JSON-LD) for rich snippets
- Redirects — URL redirect manager with 404 monitoring
- Image SEO — automatic alt text and title attributes
- External Links — auto nofollow and new tab for external links
- Breadcrumbs — structured breadcrumb navigation
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4 integration
- Instant Indexing — IndexNow API for fast indexing
Step 3: Robots.txt & AI
Configure how search engines and AI crawlers interact with your site. You can choose a preset for AI bots:
- Allow All — all AI crawlers can access your site
- Block Training — allow AI search but block training crawlers
- Block All — block all AI crawlers
Step 4: Done
The wizard confirms your setup. You can go to the Dashboard or Settings to customize further.
SEO Metabox
When editing any post or page, you'll see the Prime SEO metabox below the editor. It has several tabs:
- SEO — Title, description, focus keyword, Google preview, SEO score
- Social — Open Graph and Twitter Card settings
- Advanced — Canonical URL, noindex/nofollow, schema type
The SEO Score analyzes your content in real-time and provides suggestions for improvement. It checks title length, meta description, keyword usage, headings, and more.
The Google Preview shows exactly how your page will appear in search results, including title truncation and description length.
Enabling Modules
Each module can be toggled on or off independently. Navigate to Prime SEO → Settings to manage modules, or toggle them directly from the Dashboard page.
Every module page also has a toggle card at the top, so you can enable/disable the module from its own settings page.
AI Settings
Prime SEO's unique AI features are managed from Prime SEO → AI Settings. This page has two main sections:
- AI Bots Manager — control which AI crawlers can access your site (read more)
- LLMs.txt — generate machine-readable site instructions for AI engines (read more)
These features are what make Prime SEO unique — it's the first WordPress SEO plugin built specifically for AI search engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, and Google Gemini.
Next Steps
Now that Prime SEO is installed and configured, here's what to do next:
- Configure XML Sitemaps — customize which content appears in your sitemap
- Set up Schema Markup — configure your Knowledge Graph and structured data
- Manage AI Bots — control how AI engines interact with your content
- Connect Google Analytics — add your GA4 measurement ID
If you're migrating from another SEO plugin, check the Migration Guide to import your existing data.
